Native Youth Camp

One of the issues we see facing the culture today is the failure of passing of traditional and indigenous knowledge from Native elders to the younger generations. Native Pathfinders works under the umbrella of Support Our Arthritic Kids, Inc.,, in which we will host the 1st Annual Native Youth Camp from Saturday thru Tuesday in July 2019. There are only 10 spots available for the youth camp this summer.

The Camp will be held at a farm in Mebane, NC, which is about 45 miles west of Raleigh. It is an not an overnight Camp. Campers must be between 10 and 18 years old and be able to show direct descendant from any American Indian tribe.  The Camp will provide Native youth with opportunities to experience traditional and cultural activities, identify healthy and sustainable food and life choices, and understand how environmental education are reflected in our Native cultural knowledge and in our traditional uses of environmental

resources.

We also prioritize explorations of campers' personal interests, educational goals, and tribal identity.   The Camp will include a field trip to Raleigh to tour and meet with local and state government agencies, political staff, and the Governor's officials related to Indian Affairs. By providing these opportunities, we aim to build Native youth’s appreciation and understanding of traditional culture, but to also build their self-esteem, leadership skills, educational interests, and health and wellness.
